Tunis pays courtesy call on Chair of Heads of Authority of ECOWAS

Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament and chairman

The Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament, Rtd Hon Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, together with the Chairman of Political Affairs, Peace, Security and Africa Peer Review Mechanism, Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr., has paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Umaro El Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo, the newly elected Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The visit among other things was to congratulate His Excellency and discuss issues pertinent to the stability and development of the Sub-region.
Dr. Tunis’ entourage was received by Members of Parliament from Guinea Bissau led by the Forth Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.
Speaker Tunis then met with the President of Guinea Bissau who is also Chair of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
In his remarks, the President welcomed the Speaker and Senator Snowe, pledging his full commitment and supports to the Community Parliament.
He emphasized that the parliament will get more involved in the workings of the community since, it represents the people, stating further that he has earmarked several projects to support the ongoing integration process in the Community and asked for the Parliament’s full support.
For his part, Hon. Tunis reaffirmed the Parliament’s support and commitment in ensuring a fully integrated region. The Speaker noted that the Parliament will be more engaging with the Authority in order to build a vibrant and peaceful region.
Earlier during the visit, the Honorable Speaker met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Guinea Bissau, where they both reaffirmed their commitment to working together especially in the area of Parliamentary Diplomacy.
The Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly of Guinea Bissau also pledged the full support of the National Assembly to the upcoming Delocalized meeting that is expected to be hosted in Bissau in August of this year.
The Speaker is expected to wrap up his visit with a meeting with the ECOWAS troops in Guinea Bissau.
