Senegal’s Parliamentary Elections: “We have to ensure democracy becomes the winner”—Snowe

As Senegal prepares to go to the polls on Sunday, July 31, 2022 to elect members of its National Assembly, Chairman of the Community’s Parliament Committee on Political Affairs, Peace, Security and African Peer Review (APRM) Senator Melvin Edwin Snowe Jr. is hoping they will make the West African sub-region democratically proud.

According to him the Committee will play its role of monitoring the election to ensure that citizens are not intimidated and harassed so that the true ternate of democracy, is exhibited during the electoral process.

In an interview, he pointed out that there has been some demonstration embarked on and the opposition had been cracked down on; “it does not speak well for the region, but we have to ensure that the right action is taken and democracy becomes the winner of the day”.

He further added that the Committee will plan a mission to Senegal more especially with the political climate in Senegal.
